The instructions that accompany this trick indicate that you should place the Prison Box unit behind your body, below the table, or under a handkerchief so that you can move the gimmicked portion of the box. However, with some practice, it is possible to move the gimmick one-handed, and without any cover whatsoever. In this handling, the ring will jump to the middle compartment right in front of your audienceÕs eyes. First, hold the Prison Box as shown in the diagram. Hold the gimmicked portion in place by pressing upwards with your pinky finger. Continue to hold the box so that the front panel is facing your audience, and rotate your right hand in a circular pattern. The faster you rotate the box, it will be impossible for your audience to see the secret action of manipulating the gimmicked portion. Once you have completed the secret maneuver, stop rotating your right hand, and display that the ring has jumped into the center compartment of the box.

Secretly palm three balls in your right hand. Open the side doors of the Mystery China Box, and insert three additional balls into the taller tube. Then close the door that is closer to your audience.

Tilt the case towards yourself, and pretend to dump the balls out of the tube and into your right hand. In fact, cover the top of the tube with your left thumb so that all three balls remain inside.

Simultaneously open your right hand and display the three balls that you had secreted there from the beginning. It should appear as if you simply dumped the balls from the tube into your right hand. Place the case onto the table, and close the second door. Once the case is closed, pick it up again in your left hand. Now, place the right handÕs balls into your pocket. Position your right hand above your pocket, and pretend to pluck three invisible balls from the pocket, one at a time. Pretend to throw one ball upwards into the air, and as it Òfalls,Ó press the gimmick with your left fingers. It will sound exactly as if the balls has landed inside the case. Repeat this for each of the balls, and your audience will think that it has heard all three balls land inside of the case. Open the doors of the case, and display that three balls have indeed returned to the tube. At this point, you can continue with the handling as described in the instructions that accompany this trick.

This handling was created by professional magician Mr. Shiomi, a former magic dealer. Secretly palm a sugar cube in your right hand. Hold one of the Salt Cups in your left hand, and display to your audience that the interior of the cup is empty. Grasp the mouth of the cup with your right hand and place the cup onto the table, simultaneously dropping the sugar cube inside of the cup. If you time it properly, the sound of the cup contacting the table will cover the sound of the sugar cube as it hits the inside of the cup. Using a spoon, scoop some granulated sugar out of a nearby sugar bowl, and pour it into the Salt Cup. Rotate the Salt Cup in a circular motion several times, and then tilt the cup forwards. Instead of granulated sugar pouring out, your audience will be surprised to see a sugar cube fall out instead.
